  • Be Literal: Avoid sarcasm or "reading between the lines."
  • Clear Steps: Give instructions one at a time.
  • Predictability: Give warnings before route changes or seat moves.
Executive Function

ADHD

  • Short Directions: Use 5 words or less.
  • Patience: They may need you to repeat the rule calmly.
  • Positive Reinforcement: Notice when they ARE sitting correctly.
Behavioral

😤 ODD / Defiance

  • Don't Argue: They want the tug-of-war. Drop the rope.
  • Give Space: Stay neutral and don't crowd their personal space.
  • Offer Choices: "You can sit in your seat or we stay here."
Social/Peer Focus

  • Private Correction: Avoid calling them out in front of peers.
  • Respect First: Treat them like young adults to get respect back.
  • Pick Your Battles: If they are quiet and safe, let the small stuff go.
